What makes a certificate “valid”
Browsers trust a certificate when three things are true: it chains up to a trusted certificate authority, it has not expired, and it lists the hostname you visited (in the subject alternative names). This checker tests all three.
A certificate can look fine in your own browser yet fail for other visitors if the server forgets to send the intermediate certificate. The “Trusted chain” row catches that.
