Public IP vs private IP
Your router gives each device at home or in the office a private address, usually starting with 192.168, 10 or 172.16–31. Those addresses only work inside your network.
When you browse, your router translates them into a single public IP address assigned by your internet provider. That public address is what websites, mail servers and firewalls see, and it is what you need when someone asks you to allowlist your IP for SSH, a database or an admin panel.
